Reminder about costume fittings on Saturday, April 4

Dear Cast and Parents,

Exciting News!  We will be having a costume fitting for some characters on Saturday, 4/4 at the Louisville Arts Center on Grant Street.

Below are the characters who are being called for costume fittings on Saturday, April 4th.

12:30-12:45:   Staff and parent volunteers set up the 3 costume stations.

12:45-2:00:   Guard Chorus and Captain:     Station 1-  (Cast A & B)
Duloc performers and Greeter:  Station 2 (Cast A & B)
Big Rats:      Station 3 (Cast A & B)

2:00-3:00:   All Fairytale Characters including Gingy and Pinocchio, Teen Fiona, Young Fiona, Pied Piper:    Station 1 (Cast A &B)

3:00-3:15pm: Clean up

Details:
  • This is a fun time for the actors - very exciting to see everything coming together!
  • This is a costume heavy production and we would like everyone who can possibly make it to come to this costume fitting day.
  • Those characters who are not called have already been fitted or will be fitted once their costumes are completed.
  • There is not a “make up” date for these fittings and actors who can not attend will have to be fitted close to production time.  This could create an inability to alter some costumes.
  • Please come at the time your character is called.

Parent Volunteers Needed!!

Our costume director, Chris Harris, will need at least 6 parents to help organize and fit the costumes onto the actors from 12:30-2:15pm and 4  of those parents to stay from 12:30-3:15pm.  CenterStage truly appreciates your time and this should be a fun experience.

Please respond to Elizabeth Goodrich at:  thegoodriches@q.com today to volunteer!  (It will be fun!)

Thanks for your help.

Potluck, Set Painting, and Prop Building Sunday

This Sunday (3/22) we aren’t having a regular rehearsal, but we would love it if everyone who is going to be in town/available would come to the Arts Center from 1-6 and help us paint the set/build props. We need as much help as possible so that we can make some good progress. This sort of event is also a great opportunity for us to get to know you all better and for you to feel more involved with our CenterStage community. We have such limited rehearsal time and are always working hard to make the show as good as possible, but it’s nice to have laid back opportunities like this one to have some fun while we get work done.

From 1-2pm, we’ll be starting off with a potluck lunch. We want to make sure that we end up with a variety of different foods, beverages, etc. If you are able to come, please visit this page and RSVP with what you plan on bringing.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday!

Reminder about time change and info for 3/8/2015 rehearsal

Dear Shrek Cast and Families!
Don't forget to "Spring" forward tonight!  That means we lose an hour and tomorrow's rehearsal will come that much faster!

As you can see from the schedule, tomorrow's rehearsal is for Act 2 Sc 1-5, and I wanted to clarify that actors who are NOT in those scenes do not need to come to tomorrow's rehearsal.  This is the only remaining rehearsal where we list just CAST A or CAST B and don't mean everyone in that cast.

Specifically by cast we NEED these characters to attend:
CAST A 1:00-3:00 and CAST B 4:00-6:00
Fiona
Little Rats,
Big Rats,
Pied Piper
Bluebird
Shrek
Donkey
Farquuad
Captain of the Guard
Thelonius
Guard Chorus
Duloc Performers
3 Blind Mice

3:00-4:00p
Fiona, Donkey, Shrek and Fireflies from both casts.

If you are a Fairytale character and are not also one of the above characters you do not need to attend tomorrow's rehearsal.
Let me know if there are questions!  Keep up the good work!

"Freak Flag" Tracks

Here are the practice tracks for you to use to learn "Freak Flag." Since the song is much more complex than almost anything else in the show, I divided it into more parts than usual. First, there are the ensemble parts in three-part harmony:

Freak Flag m. 33-end
Soprano Part
Alto Part
Men's Part

Next, here are the parts for each of the Three Pigs.
Pig 1 Part
Pig 2 Part
Pig 3 Part

And finally, here is a track that just emphasizes the solo lines.

More Practice Tracks

I put together several more tracks that you can use to practice your music. Sing along with them frequently, and it will make a huge difference!

It's been a long time since we first learned the Finale, so here are the parts for the ensemble portion of the song.

"Finale" m. 72A-end
Soprano Part
Alto Part
Guys' Part

Here are the parts performers should review for the end of Duloc. See the earlier blog post for the first half of the song.

"What's Up Duloc?" m. 131-end
Soprano/Tenor Part
Middle Part
Alto Part

Here are also the Dragon/Dragonette parts for "This Is How a Dream Comes True." The style and tempos are terrible, but the notes are right.

Updated rehearsal schedule sent 2/8/2015 - Also request for Bios

Dear Shrekians,
Please see the current rehearsal schedule (Feb 8) attached.  The only change for this from the Feb 1 version is that we are back to a Thursday, April 16 Dress rehearsal (not Wednesday April 15).  This was our original plan - and we are back to is (after some scheduling updates from LMS).
See below a request for your BIO for the program from our producer Ileane Olson.

Hi Shrek Cast,
It's time to begin submitting bios for the Shrek program. Every actor should submit a bio for the program. Bios are due to Ileane by Sunday 2/15/15.

Please send your bio to Ileane at ifolson@comcast.net

When writing your bio, please keep in mind the following:

Bios should be no longer than 35 words. If you are a graduating senior, your bio may be up to 50 words.

Start with your name, then character(s) in parentheses - these do not count towards your 35 words

Example:  Mary Smith (Alice, Featured Dancer)  up to 35 word bio

Make your bio individual to you. Some things you may want to include are your school/grade, favorite show or character, activities, and/or thank-yous.

Contact me if you have questions or need bio examples.
We reserve the right to edit your bios should they run over 35 words (50 words for graduating seniors) or contain information that we do not deem as appropriate for a professional program.

Thank you!

Ileane Olson

Practice Tracks for Duloc Performers (Part 1)

The score for Shrek is pretty complex, and we know it can be difficult to master all your harmonies in our limited rehearsal time, so we're working to put together some audio tracks that will allow you to practice at home. Here are the links for the Duloc Performers to use when practicing "What's Up, Duloc?"

Download the track for your specific part and grab your music so you can sing along. You'll hear all the parts played, but yours will be much louder than the others so that you can figure out how it goes.

This particular recording goes from measure 40 to measure 105. We'll also upload parts for the end of the song once we have figured out parts for the last few notes.

If you all put a little time into working with these tracks frequently, it will make a major difference in the quality of the show.

Thanks!

Info from our Choreographer!

Dear Shrek actors,
We are moving ahead rapidly with choreography. (Fun!)  A few important notes...

If you miss a dance rehearsal, it is your responsibility to learn the dance from another actor.  Ben Lattes is our dance captain.  We do not have time to re-teach the dances at future rehearsals.  This is especially important if you missed the Duloc rehearsal on Jan. 25, as this dance is very complicated.

Bring your dance shoes to each and every rehearsal!  Jazz shoes and tap shoes, if that applies.

About tap shoes (dancing rats only)-- you have 3 options:

1). Used shoes from Kathe/Center Stage. (Mostly smaller sizes)  I have already found used shoes for several younger rats.  If your actor did get a used pair, please send $5 (give to Kathe), this goes to my "shoe swap" program.  Thanks to those who have already paid!

2). Borrow tap shoes!  Older rats can have any style of black tap shoes (oxford, character, or maryjanes).  A good source is friends from Fairview High as they tapped in their fall musical.

3).  Buy tap shoes.  Check ARC and other thrift stores.  If you are buying new, I recommend Boulder Bodywear-- mention CenterStage for a 10% discount.

Older rats-- if you cannot get tap shoes, the other alternative is black character shoes-- and we will try to fool the audience into thinking they are tap shoes.

Please have your tap shoes by our big rehearsal on Friday, Feb. 13!  We will learn the entire number this day, and it is the last dance rehearsal on the hardwood floor at the Arts Center.

Thanks for your attention to this!  If you have questions please contact Kathe, Jeanie, or Taylor.

Rehearsal Schedule Clarification

We've had a couple people asking for some clarification regarding who is called for certain rehearsals, so we just wanted to clear a few things up for everyone.
  • When "Fairytale Characters" are called, it refers to Pinocchio, Wolf, Witch, 3 Bears, 3 Pigs, Ugly Duckling, Sugar Plum Fairy, Humpty Dumpty, Elf, Peter Pan, Fairy Godmother, White Rabbit, and Mad Hatter.
  • Gingy is also included among the Fairytale Characters in every scene they are in, except Act 1, Scene 2.
  • Young Shrek/Grumpy will also be in the Fairytale Character scenes and should plan on coming to any rehearsals when that group is called.
  • We're working on finalizing the dance roles and will share the list with you ASAP so that you know if/when you are called for that portion of Sunday's rehearsal.
Looking forward to seeing many of you on Friday—remember, we are back at St. Ambrose for that rehearsal.

Great Start!

What a great read thru!  And our choreographer, Kathe Carande, had the whole cast up and dancing to I'm A Believer and Freak Flag as well as trying out a tap combination.  Great job everyone!    Did anyone leave a book, "Chasing the Falconers" behind at rehearsal?  I have it and will bring it to Tuesday's rehearsal.  We continue with music for the full cast so everyone is called for Tuesday 1/20 from 430pm to 630pm back at the Louisville Arts Center.

Greetings - first email to parents and cast

Greetings!
It was so nice to see so many of you last Thursday.  We are really excited about working with such a great cast!  I am attaching the rehearsal schedule that was handed out as well as the information sheet.  You'll notice that the rehearsal schedule has Jan 17 date on it.  If we make updates to the schedule and send it out again we will be sure to put a new date on it so you'll know which is the most current version.  Please remember that we start tomorrow - January 18 and our location is St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, 7520 South Boulder Road (but in Spanish Hills off of Barcelona.  You'll see the church from So, Boulder Road if you are driving west.  Turn left onto Barcelona in Spanish Hills.  If you are driving East on So. Boulder Rd you will need to turn right onto Barcelona before you get to the church.  Please note there is another big church on South Boulder Road around 63rd avenue and that is NOT St. Ambrose).  We will be doing dance auditions for our little rats, big rats, and skeleton ensembles as well as a full cast dance warmup, so be sure to wear clothes you can move in.  If you happen to have tap shoes, please bring those.  We will initially be in the Classrom in the main Church structure, then will move to the Church hall which is a little farther north.  Be sure to bring your own water bottle and a non-messy snack to eat outside if you need one!
See you soon,
Jeanie and Taylor

P.S - the notation "1-2 cr-4" just designates that we will be in a classroom at St. Ambrose.  It doesn't affect who is called for rehearsal.
